If you’re currently undergoing Invisalign® treatment, we’re excited for you! Your new, straight smile isn’t that far away and we hope you’re enjoying the process.
However, we’re approaching the time of year when there are so many parties with so much food that it gets easy to forget some of the basic oral health tips you need to follow when undergoing Invisalign treatment. Let’s take a refresher course.
Cleaning after eating
It’s common sense to remove your plastic aligners when eating. You can’t eat with them in, after all. However, it’s easy to forget to thoroughly clean your teeth before putting the aligners back in your mouth. Cranberry sauce, pie filling, and cake frosting are all sticky substances that easily get stuck in your teeth. Don’t forget to brush thoroughly after all holiday meals to avoid trapping extra food under your aligners.
Flossing and mouthwash
All the turkey and ham you’ll likely eat this holiday season has a way of working itself into your teeth and never leaving. Instead of stabbing at it with a toothpick, just remember to floss carefully after every meal.
You should also use mouthwash to help clean the rest of your mouth. A quick swish of mouthwash kills cavity-causing bacteria and is an extra measure of defense you can take against the assault on your oral health that comes in the form of great food.
