Would you like to have a good spring break this year? If so, one of the best ways to do so is by taking good care of your orthodontic aligners. You don’t want to worry about orthodontic problems while you’re on vacations or having a break from school, right? So, our orthodontist, Dr. Michael Jacobsen, encourages you to have a good spring break with your aligners by doing the following things:
-Pack your oral hygiene kit: Your oral hygiene kit should include your toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and tools to clean your aligner. It’s important to clean your aligner often because plaque can build up on the appliance and cause dental issues.
-Clean your smile regularly: It’s very important to eliminate the food particles and bacteria from your teeth and gums often. This is because if you don’t remove them, they can get trapped under your aligner. As time passes, they can start to wear down the enamel and harm it.
-Take your aligner out of your mouth before eating: Eating and chewing gum with the aligner still in the mouth can damage the appliance. So, make sure to remove it before putting anything in the mouth. It’s also best to remove it before drinking anything other than water.
